3-D animated GIF’s are controversial. Scholars feel that the true nature of the form is the 2-D format. The desire to make a five or six frame animation appear “real” may be a superfluous activity. A visit to the Egyptian Themes page was shocking, as the figures rose from their normally flattened state and began to worship and dance to the reductive, tension producing midi strains of “Here Comes the Sun”.

Mr. Bowie is making a big leap here. Are these 3-D GIF’s “awesome” or are they the work of savages and/or criminal degenerates? I’m going to leave the door open for 3-D gifs, because I am fascinated with the curatorial potential of the form. While the Egyptian Theme page is optimistic, the Female Characters page, stocked with orphans from the Fantasy and Medieval Theme pages (all gyrating to “Evil Woman”) provides a much darker commentary.

The MIDI version of Duran Duran’s “Rio” that played whilst I browsed CGI animated animals was quite enjoyable. Awesome, indeed.

PS—You’ve got to be sure to listen to the music that accompanies each one. Otherwise, it’s nothing. If the gif of the polar bear rolling over onto his back a billion times to the tinny Casio strains of “We Will Rock You” doesn’t provide you with yor daily dose of awesomeness… well, that’s what the Leprechaun picture is for. But I don’t know what’s funnier than the world’s shittiest gifs being scored by the most innapropriate, shitty songs. Oh yeah—adding the word SAMPLE across all of them so that nobody steals them is even funnier. Ah… I love that site!

Come on, John. Go to the “domestic animals” one and tell me that’s not amazing. Maybe I should have clarified that it was the single shittiest website I’ve ever seen (in addition to the best), but given the scope of the internet, that’s a pretty huge honor. Repulsion, hilarity, and awesomeness are pretty close cousins. I don’t remember laughing this hard at a website in a long time.
