Nina Katchadourian’s Sorted Books

The process is the same in every case: culling through a collection of books, pulling particular titles, and eventually grouping the books into clusters so that the titles can be read in sequence, from top to bottom. The final results are shown either as photographs of the book clusters or as the actual stacks themselves, shown on the shelves of the library they were drawn from.

  1. I must be dumb, because I don’t really understand.

  2. If you read the titles, you’ll notice the books contradict, differentiate, or tell something even more subtle, giving us something to think about. And all through simplistic photography. The gallery link leads to more book clusters and descriptions explaining it way better than I just did. And yes, it took a good ten minutes of blank staring to get it; so don’t feel bad. hahah
