I doubt these pictures were conceived or styled by seniors. Probably by some gen y guy who thinks he's oh so clever. I think they suck.

These are hysterical and offer proof that a sense of humor does not have to disappear with old age.

The pictures are not meant to be a commentary on the war - which we all agree is a terrible thing - but the photographs themselves. I suspect that Susan would not object to someone recreating the images in a "serious" manner for advertising of something of a "noble purpose", but hates the parody.

Consider da Vinci's "Last Supper." I am a devout Catholic (as my blog is meant to demonstrate), but I can understand when its icongraphic structure is used in a recreation (I am thinking specifically of Annie Liebovitz using it for "The Sopranos," which is fitting when you consider that da Vinci was capturing the moment just after Jesus said, "One of you will betray me."

Oh well, those folks look like they had a good time.

Susan, please, lighten the fuck up. It was 30 years ago. I remember seeing both pictures for the first time when they were still "new" so please leave your elitist crap at the door.

These are funny. You might have no sense of humor, that's fine. Just don't shit on other people's enjoyment. There's this nifty little button at the top of your browser that makes things you don't like go away- click the X and go about your day.

I'm from the generation that was totally repulsed by all that occurred during the VN war (from *both* sides), and worked tirelessly to bring it to an end.
Random, casual executions, as well as burning children trying to escape their horror and pain (both of which are iconic photographs), just doesn't translate to "recreative elderly cute" to me.
If you think I'm no "fun," the war wasn't anything close to "fun." Or cute. How out of touch with history can people be?
There is nothing "constructive" nor "creative" from the senior citizens participation in the photo shoot. And the excuse of "sick but lovable humor" is inexcusable. If any of them had a terrified granddaughter running down a road naked and in unbelievable pain, would they chuckle and make a mental note to recreate her horrific situation when they were retired and totally out of touch? Would they chortle if a beloved son/husband/brother was at the end of a cold-blooded officer's revolver that it did not even hesitate to use on film?
You know, there are situations that just aren't, and will never be, amusing in any kind of way.
No shame to the senior citizens pictured.
However, the brainiac behind the shoot...yikes.

Had my father still been alive and he was asked, I'm sure he would have participated in these. We continue to lose that sick yet lovable sense of humor with the passing of their generation.
